What will I learn at Camp? University of Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale is known throughout the country as a teacher. Her offensive style is up-tempo transition set up by tenacious defensive pressure. Coach Coale’s overall philosophy is to teach passionate, aggressive basketball while building a positive attitude, work ethic and respect for teammates and coaches.
Learn Oklahoma Offense Learn the ‘Motion Offense’ that Coach Coale has implemented at Oklahoma. Coach Coale and her camp staff will teach you the motion offense in which players learn what to do when the defense reacts a certain way. They will focus on the same offensive fundamentals that have made OU one of the Big Twelve’s top offensive team. Coach Coale’s description of the perfect offense is one where the coach does not know what is coming. “It will be something that players instinctively do themselves by recognizing the defense, reacting to it and by reading other teammates.” Coach Coale believes that when kids learn to play with this concept, it elevates both their understanding and true enjoyment of the game. In addition, to the basic offense, campers will learn how to read defenses, how to run the fast break, principles of good shot selection and how to move without the basketball.
Learn Oklahoma Defense at Comprehensive Camp While the primary orientation of camp is offense, defense is addressed during Comprehensive Camp. Coach Coale believes the foundation of all good defensive play starts with a player’s solid understanding of man-to-man defense. Players learn that offense and defense go hand-in-hand and that a good pressure defense will generate offensive opportunities. You will be instructed on the same defensive principles that are stressed to the Sooners throughout the season.
